This time we asked the young artist Stefan Sloot to share his artist view on fashion. Sloot is an independent designer who works under the name Studio Captain. Specialized in collage art work, Stefan used a mix of digital and analogue media to create a unique artwork around the new Stussy cap.
The early success of Stussy has been attributed to its popularity in the hip-hop and DJ scenes. With a classical take on sportswear, the brand has ever since been embraced by skaters, punks, hipsters, and other street subcultures. To capture the funky and disruptive coolness of this cap, Sloot approached his design as follows: I don’t wear caps or hats myself, but I really like the design on the cap, and especially the pattern. I regularly use the same kind of patterns (drawn lines) in my own designs. For this artwork you see a pattern of drawn lines, but also a pattern of windows, which refer to street style. The atmosphere I want to create is a combination of animal-like and street, just like the hat represent. To give it my own signature, I used organic and wave-like forms to create movement.
